Pretzsch – Torgau

But we took a train to Dresden

40k to Torgau this morning in very flat and not-very-interesting countryside, and the nearest place to get a new controller is Dresden so we decided to skip the 2 day cycle and take a train to Leipzig, then to Dresden. We didn’t feel shortchanged by missing the “well-preserved” Renaissance town of Torgau, and have settled in for a German Sunday in Dresden (ie closed), and it’s not like you can actually see the Elbe River from the trail anyway. Apparently between here and Prague it gets quite interesting, so as soon as I get the bike sorted we will see if that’s the case.

No battery use to report.

Wittenberg – Pretzsch

I prefer manual power really.

Not as far as we wanted to go today, but no battery use to speak if because Jill’s controller has broken so we swapped because I am the consummate gentleman, and I am now riding a heavy bike with only my old legs, hopefully only to Dresden, about 100k up the river

We decided to stop at Pretzsch because I felt they could use some vowels, staying in a nice pension behind a bakery. Could be worse, it’s a pleasant wee town although when I went out to the supermarket for essential wine and cheese, a horse drawn cart full of tourists went by, thus placing the town in the Disney category.20180831-094119.gpx

Berlitz – Wittenberg

Record day

Took a train to Beelitz for a head start, to give us about a 60k ride. With a bit of spontaneous navigation we extended that to 84k, but what a ride!

Beelitz has a famous derelict sanatorium which took a while to find, explore and get thrown out of. Whatever we found was private property.

Then it started with a few ks of proper cycle path, side by side on separated tar seal, hoping that this was what it would be all the way, but it soon became a mix of quiet roads and trails, all very scenic passing through impeccably tidy villages and forests. At about the mid point at Treuengfdthovsthhff we were on a scary main road for a while, but aunty Google found us some back roads which turned out to be rough, sandy, isolated forest trscks for about 20k of solitary fun, justifying all the hassle of bringing our FS MTBs. Bit of rain, bit colder than we like but bitte.

I was very sparing with power until the hills towards the end and used 75- 80%, Jill just leaves her on 4 all day and used 95%.

Last day in Berlin

Berlin

Just to record the ride from Jack’s place to the station, our first with batteries, but I didn’t turn mine on because it didn’t add all that much to flat city riding. We went via the hotel to get our deposit for the kettle back, thus depriving the receptionist of her expected €10 tip.

These 11k were part of the record day to Wittenberg.
