Back roads over the saddle

We biked around to Ohakura via the Whakapura pass, a steep little climb through beautiful natural bush with enormous kauri right by the road and stayed the night at the Whangaruru camp which was run by a woman who perhaps was not her normal cheerful self that day. The cabins have a beautiful view out over the Whangaruru Harbour, and the Tardis like store at the GAS station has everything you will need, especially when the highly recommended fish and chip shop is closed like it was that day. Pick up supplies on the way the to the camp because there’s a surprise steep little climb over to it that you might not want to do too often at the end of a long day.
