Just missed Whangarei

We packed up early had a big breakfast across the road along with an accidental cousin, Philip, who sprang up out of nowhere and then hit the road. Jill is a very good editor and proofreader and had picked up that my clever route down to Patau to and then to Whangarei Heads was going to take us along a walkers only section where we would have had to carry the bikes through a waist deep stream so we opted for the road which took us nearly all the way into Whangarei and then over the Mount Tiger road, with 300m climbing and 18% hills, to Whangarei Harbour and Parua Bay. An alarming encounter with a superman onesie didn’t put us off the place at all.
Jill also has magic skills in finding accommodation and the wee batch high over Taurikura was an absolute stunner. Great sunset and bananas from the garden
