Route Planner

Berlin – Prague – Vienna – Saint-Nazaire

Arriving in and leaving from Amsterdam, we’re going to take the train to Berlin to visit relatives, then bike down to Wittenberg to follow the Elbe River to Prague, across Czechia to Vienna on the Greenway route, and then follow the EV6 to Passau, hang a left to get a Mozart fix in Salzburg, then getting back to the EV6 via a train to visit Rex and Moni in Munich. Peut-etre to any of these plans because who wants to plan ahead too far. Before we start off we’ll have the first week sorted, but after that who knows. If it gets too chilly we’ll head south to Portugal or Sicily, or if it’s a warmish autumn we’ll check out Brittany and bike back to Amsterdam

We’ll be staying in AirBnBs or similar, booking a few days in advance, so if anyone wants to join in for some of it we can easily expand our plans to fit you in.

Prague to Vienna

The Greenway route  http://www.pragueviennagreenways.org/cycle.html

Vienna – Salzburg

“think about taking the route along the danube all the way to passau and then along the inn and salzach to salzburg (basically no mountains, hills, whatsoever), lots of local hotels on the way. don’t think you need reservations, except for maybe vienna and salzburg. look for the “zimmer frei” sign. if you can’t find a room in one town/village keep going to the next one, but start looking early enough and keep in mind how far it is to the next village.”

The final, actual route.  3,000km, lots of trains, too much time spent in cities, no regrets, none of it a waste of time and I would love to go back and do more of Eastern Czechia, Slovakia, Eastern Slovenia and the rest of Croatia. I don’t want to go anywhere near any “faithfully restored old towns”, cities, main roads, Austria or Germany. I’ll give a wide berth to castles, cathedrals and any towns that have a fake locotove to take take trains of tourists to local points of interest.
